SMT to take on Three Peaks Challenge in aid of Round Table Children’s Wish

The long, winding (and steep) road will be walked soon!

We have had multiple false starts in our attempts in raising much-needed funds for Round Table Children’s Wish. But the light appears to be at the end of the tunnel following the Government’s Covid Roadmap, which means we can now plan for our Three Peaks Challenge.

The SMT has settled on the 21st of May to take on the “Marathon in the Mountains” Three Peaks Challenge.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks route is 24 miles (38.6km), and includes 1585m (5200ft) of ascent.

The challenge itself consists of 24 miles of pure beauty climbing 5,200ft over the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, hopefully completing in under 12 hours without the use of the Air Ambulance. These peaks form part of the Pennine range and encircle the head of the valley of the River Ribble, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.  To read more about the huge undertaking visit: https://www.threepeakschallenge.uk/yorkshire-three-peaks-challenge/

The Backstory

In April 2020, TSP’s CEO, Richard Parnell and Chris Worrall were due to run the London Marathon in Aid of Round Table Children’s Wish – but due to COVID-19, their plans to raise £5,000 was put on hold.

Since then, we have been trying to work out an activity that not only can be completed in social bubbles but also just as challenging as the London Marathon. The brainchild of our ever-active Sales Director, the Three Peaks Challenge seed was planted and now we have a team of 9 taking part (so far).

The Charity

Round Table Children’s Wish is a small charity that grant wishes for children between the ages of 4-17 who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening or terminal illness. The aim of the charity is to provide children with a chance to have a moment of relief and respite away from their illness to just enjoy a special treat or experience. Funds raised from the Hiker’s in the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge will help make some of these magical wishes come true.

RTCW has helped many children, such as Luke – Read Luke’s story below

Luke, aged 13, suffers from Duchenne muscular dystrophy. He relies entirely on his motorised wheelchair for his independence and mobility.

There is very limited treatment available to Luke which has a real negative impact on his wellbeing as he is very aware of his limitations.

Inclusion is so important to Luke, who enjoys spending time with his friends and family but visiting at other people’s homes can be very difficult and often impossible. This leads to Luke feeling socially isolated and unable to join in.

For his wish, Luke asked to have a large garden cabin that would be completely accessible to him.

We were delighted to grant his wish! Now Luke can have his family and friends over to spend quality time together.

Please dig deep and grant another child like Luke their wish
